Joyce Hipps Smith

Joyce Hipps Smith, 79, of Asheville, died on Monday, June 11, 2012, at Aston Park Health Care Center. A native of Haywood Co., Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Walter and Ada Grogan Hipps. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William M. "Bill" Smith, who died in 2004; her son, Larry Eugene Smith; sister, Violet Scott; and brothers, James and Walter Hipps. Mrs. Smith had worked at the snack counter of Woolworth's. Her greatest job and hobby though was taking care of her family. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughters, Brenda Green and husband Denny, of Asheville, and Janet Trout and husband Tom, of Cleveland, TN; son, William R. "Richard" Smith and wife Marsha; sisters, Nancy Creasman and husband Don, Louise Quakenbush and husband Bill, and Betty Sue Hensley and husband LJ; brother, Billy Hipps and wife Bobbie; grandchildren, Jonathan and Joseph Cupp, Amanda Trout, Sarah Leigh Smith, William Martin Smith, Wesley Marcus Smith, and William K. Smith, and great-grandchildren, Sayla, Greyson, Kayla, Zoe, Zack, Jaylen, Collin, Evelyn, and Carter. A funeral service for Mrs. Smith will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with Maj. Mrs. James Hipps officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
