Fletcher ~ Juanita Franklin Johnston, 80, of Fletcher, died Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at Memorial Mission Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Canady Thomas and Emma Brooks Franklin. She was also preceded in death by her husband Samuel Ervin “S.E.” Johnston, Jr. and her two brothers. She was a member of Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church, a founding member of Skyland Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, a member of the Buncombe County and North Carolina Farm Bureau State Women’s Committee and Avery’s Creek Home Demonstration Club. Juanita was also an avid bowler. She is survived by four sons; Samuel E. Johnston III and his wife Kathy, William F. Johnston and his wife Nancy, Timothy M. Johnston and Bradley A. Johnston and his wife Susan, all of Fletcher; a daughter, Mary Louise Corn and her husband Michael also of Fletcher; six grandchildren, Wendy D., Samuel E. IV and Matthew C. Johnston, Kimberly J. Cabe, Keith Gilliam and Kelly Laughter; five great grandchildren, Katy, Tyler, Kyle, Kendall and Conan. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church with the Reverend Warren Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Friday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on 72 Long Shoals Road and at other times will be at the home of the daughter Mary Louise Corn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, Attn: Mary Louise Corn, 735 Butler Bridge Road, Fletcher, NC 28732.
