Kenneth Anderson Sherlin, III, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Kenneth Anderson Sherlin, II and Claudia Dean Martin Sherlin, as well as his brothers; Ronnie, Donnie, and Ray Sherlin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Tonia Simpson Sherlin; his son, Kenneth Anderson Sherlin IV; his daughter, Candice Nicoll Sherlin Freeman; granddaughters AnnLeigh and Airlee Freeman; his brother, Charles Sherlin, and his sister, Kay Sherlin Robins.

Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States military before beginning a long and successful career in the
insurance industry. He worked in life insurance for 35 years with Jefferson Pilot Life Insurance Company as a manager,
and later retired as Regional Director of Keystone Financial in 2011. A lifetime member of the Life Underwriters
Association with many awards and accolades, he was also active in the Health Underwriters. Known for his brilliance and curiosity, he could master any skill — from law and taxes to building and craftsmanship and always generously shared his knowledge with others.

A beloved member of the community, Kenneth was known for his generosity and creativity. Each Christmas he decorated his home with thousands of lights, welcoming families to enjoy the season and visit Santa. He loved to travel, especially cruises, and enjoyed playing golf with friends and colleagues.

Above all, Kenneth will be remembered as a man who gave of himself freely, cared for others first, and provided
unwavering devotion to his wife and family.

In his final months, Kenneth and his family were deeply grateful for the compassionate care he received from the staff at The Laurels of Summit Ridge.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home on
Tunnel Road, with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. Ron Brown will officiate. Burial will follow in the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery.

    • I loved working with Ken thru Bill Chatter’s office and also NAHU. He was such a great personality and made everyone feel comfortable with a great smile. I truly appreciated his wisdom and help whenever needed. I’m so sorry for the loss of Ken for family and friends. We will forever be grateful for always him.

  6. It was my joy and honor to meet and care for Mr. Sherlin. All that met him loved him. He made us laugh and he was the best of all of us. His family is the best. They all made our lives more enjoyable. Mr. Sherlin and his family are one of a kind and we miss all of them.
