Kenneth Freeman, 68, of Potato Branch Rd., Leicester, died Monday, December 5, 2011, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. A native of Madison Co., he was a son of the late Charles and Violet Gentry Freeman. Mr. Freeman was retired from Square D after 43 years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Iva Arrowood Freeman; sons Anthony Freeman and wife Sheila of Leicester, and Stevie Freeman of the home; grandsons Ryan, Michael, and Brandon Freeman, all of Leicester; and sisters Pansy Peele and husband Butch of Rocky Mtn., and Rose Steelman and husband Charles of Fletcher. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Leicester Baptist Church, with the Reverends Charles Rogers, Freddy Bishop, and Bobby Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, P.O. He would always call me and let me know when one of my goats was caught in the fence – he called them my babies. We will miss his smile, but know that he is still with us on this mountain.

  7. I worked with Ken when the Square D plant was open in Asheville. He was always smiling and seemed like a great person, always eager to help. Your family will be in my prayers.

  8. I am very saddened to read of the passing of Ken. I worked with him at Square D in receiving. I am very grateful to him because he retired in order that I may continue to work until I reached retirement age, so that I may have an opportunity to have some income after my job ceased. We both had a passion for the Tarheels and Braves.

  9. My condolences to the Freeman family. I worked with Ken for 20 years, and he was always such a sweet man. He was always upbeat and smiling and was a joy to be around. May you feel the peace of knowing that he is now happy and without pain and watching over all of you.
