Larry James Allen, 58, of 29 Gretchen Lane, Asheville, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, in an Asheville hospital. Mr. Allen was born in Buncombe County and served with the US Air Force in Vietnam. He worked as a millwright and attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ardell Suttles Allen; one son, Bryan Allen and his wife Jenneta of Asheville; two step-sons, Eric Smith and his wife Mandy of Asheville and Mark Smith of Asheville; his parents, The Rev. James and Geri Lee Allen of Asheville; two brothers, Phil Allen of Asheville and Audie Allen of Wilmington; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Burial will be at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7 - 9 pm Thursday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to the Liver Foundation, PO Box 268, Morrisville, NC 27560, or to the American Lung Association, PO Box 27985, Raleigh, NC 27611.

  2. Larry was a very special person. We enjoyed having him as part of the Hickman Company where he served for five years. Larry will be missed.
