Lawrence Dee Carlson

Lawrence "Larry" Dee Carlson, 80, of Asheville, passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Elizabeth House. A native of Rockford, IL, he was the son of the late Carl T. and Mildred Humeston Carlson. Larry was also preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Tunks. He was a graduate of West High School in Rockford, IL and also earned a psychology degree from Rockford College. Larry was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the chemical corps and went on to work as the Director of Management Information Systems at Columbia Records in Terre Haute, IN and later in the same capacity at Beacon Manufacturing, from which he retired. Larry was fond of the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, golf and camping. He is survived by his wife, Sally H. Carlson of Asheville; two daughters, Laura A. Carlson and her partner, Gary David McCabe and their children, Rosa Fischer and Frederick McCabe, all of Munich, Germany and Karen A. Carlson and her son, Sam Carlson, of Bloomington, IN as well as several nieces and nephews. There will be a gathering to celebrate Larry's life at a later date.
