Leona Hartis Wallace, 72, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at the Hospice House of Brunswick County. A native of Union County, she was the daughter of the late Vern and Loma Cook Hartis. She was a former manager of the Family Dollar Store in Asheville. Leona is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard Marvin Wallace; seven children, Jessie Jenkins (Angela) of Asheville, Elizabeth Spencer (Tim) of Rutherfordton, Timmy Jenkins (Joy) of Edneyville, Tonia Gutierrez (Martinen) of Arden, Richard Wallace of Conover, Kathy Plott of Arden and Mary Ann Wallace of Norfolk, VA. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ann Hartis, Frieda Shootman and Peggy Sue Adkins and five brothers, Bill, Bud and Walter Hartis, and Charles and Earl Goode. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Reverend Craig Garren. Interment will follow in Roberts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.
