Leonard Jay “Big Yank” Coleman, 59, of 237 Sulphur Springs Road, Asheville, died Friday, January 7, 2000, at the VA Medical Center.

A native of Erie County, NY, he was a son of the late Spencer Jay and Doris Marie Gilbert Coleman. He was an Army veteran and a member of the VFW and Moose Lodge. He was the owner and operator of Big Yank’s Harley Shop at Smiley’s Flea market.

Surviving are his wife, Willa Dean Coleman; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Coleman and Donna Marie Ledesma, and a very special niece, Serena Rice, all of Asheville; a sister, Barbara Hathaway of New York; a brother, Gilbert Lee Coleman of Asheville; and three grandchildren, Ruben Christopher Mitchell, Jr., Amber Denise Marie Mitchell, and Candice Anna Marie Flores. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Toby Jay Mitchell.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Ingle officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Monday at the funeral home.
