Leslie Owen Jones, 75, of 5 Bear Creek Drive, died Wednesday, August 30, 2000, at his home. Born in Wallasey Cheshire England, he was a son of the late Owen and Hannah Walker Jones. He served in the Coldstream Guards/Tank Division of the British Army during WWII. He moved to Asheville in 1948 and was retired from BASF after 38 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Mildred McFee Jones; a daughter, Barbara Fagan of Rock Hill, SC; a son, Philip Owen Jones of Abingdon, VA; a sister, Olive Jones McFee of Candler; four grandchildren, Matthew Fagan, Lesley Fagan, Michael Hubble and Matthew Hubble. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at St. George’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Harry Woggon officiating. Burial will follow at Snow Hill United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be: Philip Jones, Mike Fagan, Matthew Fagan, Matthew Hubble, Michael Hubble, Pat Mastin and honorary pall bearer is John McFee. His family will receive friends 7:00-9:00 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 16, Asheville, NC 28802 or NC Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 500 Blue Ridge Rd., Black Mountain, NC 28711.
