Born in: Buncombe Co., NC
Resided in: Candler, NC

Logan was born March 21, 2005. To those of us who knew him as a toddler, he will always be “Logie.” Our hearts are broken because he left this life much too soon, on October 27, 2022, at the age of 17. Logan was a senior at Enka High School and employed at Zips Car Wash. Logan was a very loving individual and cared very much for his family and many that he came in contact with.

He is survived by his father, Drew Mathews, his mother, Julie Higdon, and his brother, Jackson. Also surviving are his maternal grandparents, Charles and Loretta Higdon; paternal grandparents, Larry and Freda Mathews; maternal aunt, Amanda Campbell (Chris) and their children Madison, Sawyer and Hunter; paternal aunt, Shelly (Steve) Morrison and their children Lauren (Nate) Woolum and Kyle; and a paternal uncle, Larry.

The family will receive friends starting at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue.

The service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Youth Pastor Josh DeHart officiating. We will celebrate Logan and who he was with a few who want to share. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler, with Pastor Steve Morrison officiating.

Pallbearers are Jackson Mathews, Dylan Cable, Oakley Williams, Kyle Morrison, Chad Watkins and Will Massie. Honorary pallbearers are Christian Maltry, Manager, and fellow employees at Zips Car Wash.

  6. Our family is deeply saddened. We are praying for your families. Our entire family love both Logan and Jackson and share many great memories made with those boys in the 7 years we were neighbors. Logan spent many summer days at our house and we enjoyed every single minute of the time we had with him. We have missed Jackson and Logan and the family since we had to move. Logan was very bright, loved the typical youth activities but also enjoyed entertaining the grown-ups with his witty conversation. Logan made us smile every day. Logan we miss you buddy and will see you on a better day in heaven.
