LOIS BALLINGER BROOKS Lois Ballinger Brooks, 86, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2003, after a long illness. Mrs. Brooks was born January 12, 1917, in Buncombe County to the late John S. and Ethel Parker Ballinger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles P. Brooks and a brother Hugh Ballinger. She was retired from American Enka Nylon Packing and was active in Enka Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Weaverville for many years, especially in the Sunbeam and Girls Auxiliary programs. Surviving are two daughters Elaine Brooks and Frances Welch of Weaverville; three sisters, Catherine Horton of Asheville, Faye Harper of Fairview and Blanche Brazille of Asheville; grandchildren Cindy Ivey and her husband Mike of Arden, and Steve Brooks and his wife Lisa, Isaac Welch III and his wife Tammy, and Tovah Welch of Weaverville, Tosh Welch of Cherokee, PFC. Shim Welch of Ft. Benning, GA and his wife Kelly of Asheville; great-grandchildren Alyssa and Jason Ivey of Arden, Tyler Brooks and Alexandria Welch of Weaverville, and Kailey Welch-Harris of Cherokee. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James McCoy and the Rev. Leroy Denton officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times the family will be at the home.

  2. Dear Faye, Blanche and the Ballenger family, I am so sorry to learn of Lois’s passing. I was reading the Asheville Citizen on the Internet and happen to see the obit. The last time that I saw Lois was at my brother’s ( J.B.Lewis) funeral.The Ballengers will always have a special place in my heart. May God Bless you.
