Louis L. Gowan, 71, of 173 Mt. Carmel Road, Asheville, went to meet his nephew Joseph Fender and to be with Jesus Sunday, September 18, 2005, at the VA Medical Center. Mr. Gowan was a native of Madison County and was a son of the late Arthur and Emily Grigsby Gowan. He was retired after 30 years with the US Navy and was a former salesman at Matthew’s Ford. He was also the retired owner of Asheville Wrecker Service. Surviving are his wife Billie Ball Gowan; one son, Jeffrey Gowan of the home; three daughters, Debra Dalton of Skyland, Kimberly Gelso and her husband Pat of Chicago, IL, and Regina Profitt and her husband Lloyd of Ohio; three grandchildren, Jasmine, Josh and Jonathon; four sisters, Viola Brown of Asheville, Ruth Pace of Swannanoa, Maude Ayers of Enka and Dorothy Mathis of Ohio; one half sister, Janice Mathis of Skyland; and two half brothers Lewis Gowan and Dean Gowan. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Ronald Dodson and Gary Haynes officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team at Green Hills Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

There aren’t that many husbands that loved their wife as much as Louis loved you.You and Jeff was definitly his life.     by me and all of the brothers in the towing services in the area.
    You always had a kind word to say to and about people. You worked hard and was very honest.
    I wish the world had a lot more people like you.
    I know that your work on earth is done so look up our buddies Cliff and Big Wayne sitting around God’s throne. Hope to see you again one day.
