Lucille Llewellyn Hawkins, 78, of Asheville, died peacefully early Monday, August 4, 2008, at Genesis Health Care Facility in Mooresville, NC. She died of complications from a stroke and was surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, and new friends at Genesis. Lucille was born on May 12, 1930, in Asheville, and was the daughter of the late William Grady and Ruby Rector Llewellyn. Mrs. Hawkins was a graduate of Lee H. Edward's High School's proud class of 1948. She was a bookkeeper and retired from McDonalds Corp. in the accounting department. She was a longtime member of West Asheville Baptist Church and the Wilshire Park Community Club. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert M. Hawkins, who died in April, 2007. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her daughter, Teresa L. Hawkins and son-in-law Michael W. Burkhard, of Cornelius, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Larry Hawkins and Meredith, of Asheville; nephews, Bruce Hawkins, of Asheville, and Dan Llewellyn, of Decatur, GA; and nieces, Becki Walker and Sherry Reid, both of Asheville, and Mary Sue Fields, of Winder, GA. Lucille was much loved by all who met and knew her, and will be much missed and still loved. A funeral service for Mrs. Hawkins will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home. Regardless of age, health, or any other circumstance we are never ready to give up our loved ones. Our Faith and friends are the only things to sustain us.
