Mr. Luther Douglas Worley, 92, of Winston-Salem, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Luther was born December 3, 1925 in the Sandy Mush community of Buncombe County, NC. He was the second child of Rossie Robert and Ruth Ann Black Worley. He is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Lucille Fish Worley; brother, Robert Fred Worley, brothers-in-laws; Keith Merryfield and Tom Fish. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the 82nd Airborne. He retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was a member of Oak Summit United Methodist Church where he served his Lord for over 40 years. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Barry Self; brothers: Paul (LaRue) Worley, Dan (Dorothy) Worley; sisters: Retha (Bert) Freeman, Reva Merryfield, Martha (Richard) Ledford, sister-in-law: Margaret Worley; brothers-in-laws: Allen (April) Fish, Raleigh (Nancy) Fish, Jerry (Kathleen) Fish; numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1498 Sand Hill Road, Candler, NC. Memorials may be made Salemtowne Resident Assistance Fund, 1000 Salemtowne Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family wishes to thank the staff at Salemtowne, Forsyth Memorial Hospital and the KBR Hospice Home for the excellent care and concern they provided Luther.

  3. Dear Linda and family, I’m sorry I cannot come to Luther’s service tomorrow. It is just too far from where I am living now. I just wish I could have talked to him before his stroke. My thoughts and prayers are with you (especially at 11 am tomorrow). I loved my brother so much. I know he’s happy now, in heaven, with Lucille, Fred, and our parents.
