Margaret Aileen Smith, 90, of Asheville, died on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Buncombe Co., Ms. Smith was a daughter of the late Gordon Smith and Bonnie Davis Smith Melton. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles G. Smith and Joe F. Smith; and a niece, Anne Michelle Player.
Margaret graduated from Swannanoa High School in 1937. She moved to Brevard when the Ecusta plant opened, and worked there until she retired in 1985. She had many loving friends there throughout the years that will miss her. Margaret returned to Asheville to live with her niece in 2006 after suffering a stroke.
Margaret was of the Methodist faith and loved her Savior unquestionably.
Margaret was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend. She was loved by all who knew her and her beautiful blue eyes and wonderful smile will be missed but not forgotten.
She is survived by her sisters, Nelle Ashworth, of Brevard, and Emily (John) Meredith of Asheville; nieces, Linda Rice, with whom she made her home, and Donna Martin, of Asheville; nephews, Maurice (Kathy) Howell, of Asheville, and Donald (Paula) Ashworth, of Brevard; five great-nephews, two great-nieces, four great-great-nephews, five great-great-nieces, and special friend, Earl Sorrells, of Brevard.
A graveside service for Margaret will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Riverview Cemetery with the Rev. Enoch Ball officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.
