Marge Evans, 91, passed away peacefully Thursday July 7, 2016 at Givens Estates surrounded by her loving family. Marge was the daughter of Leslie and Lillian Klug of Rhinelander, WI. After traveling as part of her husband's Navy career that to them to various parts of our country, Marge and her husband Joe retired to Pisgah Forest. They fell in love with the beauty of this area and the dramatic changes of the four seasons. Marge had a strong faith in God and was a long time member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church. Marge was a physical education teacher who then dedicated her life to raising her four children. Marge's mother Lill instilled a love of nature in Marge which she, in turn, then instilled in her children. Her family was the most important part of her life and that included their various pets. She was always willing to give a helping hand especially to those less fortunate. All who came in contact with Marge were touched by her wit, goodness, and love. She is preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother Leslie Klug. Marge was joined by her loving husband Dr. Joe Evans Sr., who passed away on July 10. She is survived by their four children: Joy Ruecktenwald (Rueck) of Waukesha, WI, Joe Evans Jr. (Kaye) of Ypsilanti, MI, Jean LaFratta of Candler, NC, and John Evans (Melanie) of Newport News, VA, as well as a special nephew, Bill Evans, III (Deborah) of Mission Viejo, CA. Marge is also survived by her six grandchildren: Joseph Evans III (Stephanie), Jackie Bogues (Jason), Timothy Evans, David LaFratta, Josh Evans, and Katie Evans. Included in her extended family are all her friends, neighbors, and caregivers who will miss her. A joint memorial service will be held for Marge and her beloved husband, Joe, on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 1:30 PM in the Norma F. Pulliam Chapel at Givens Estates. The family will receive friends following the service. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  1. Joe, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Marge was a GOOD one. She will certainly be missed. We also miss you at church.
    God Bless

  2. Mrs. Evans could smile and make you feel better . Mrs. Evans and Dr. Evans are the kindest and most gentle souls you could ever hope to meet. I was lucky that I had the opportunity to have known both of them. I was also fortunate to have met all of their incredible children. I know Marge’s passing will leave a large hole in a lot of hearts. My heartfelt condolences to her family.

  3. Dear Marge’s Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Marge was a dear friend and loyal ‘pew buddy’ at Fletcher. I feel very privileged to have had her for a friend to share doggy stories and family stories. I will truly miss her. Take care Joe.

  4. My sincere condolences to the family of Marge Evans. May you find comfort in your loving memories, and in God’s promise to soon ‘swallow up death forever’ and ‘wipe away the tears from all faces.’ (Isaiah 25;8) With deepest sympathy,

  5. Bingo!!! We did have fun didn’t we! Quarters, quarters and more — even ones with paint on them. Those were good days at Glen Cannon –we miss our great friends, golf – and the mountains.
We send our love to all of you – thanks for taking such good care of your wonderful parents. Allen and Betsy Martin.

  6. My condolences to the family and Joe and Marge. I had the pleasure of knowing them and singing with them in our church choir. They were wonderful people.
    Ginny Simpson, Pisgah Forest

  7. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Joy and Rueck, Jackie and Jason especially to you. It is never easy to lose someone you love but gain peace in knowing that they are pain free and together for eternity embraced in the love of our Heavenly Father. I remember meeting Joy’s mom and dad at Jackie’s graduation party and what sweet, kind hearted people they were. Love to you all Joel and Margene
