Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Although I never met Marie, as a member of the BCWRC I’ve heard her name mentioned numerous times over the years always in such positive ways. She sounds like she was such an inspirational woman, and definitely years before her time on the political scene. I know she will be deeply missed by many. Gods speed.

  2. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. I have enjoyed spending time with Marie at Asheville Garden Club functions, and she was a true matriarch of our organization. She will surely be missed.

  3. Marie was just a special person in so many ways. I have wonderful memories of she and Jess and all they did for the community.

  4. My deepest sympathy on the loss of my long time friend and fellow past President of the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women. Marie and I worked for years together to better our State through involvement in the Republican Party at a time when being a Republican was not easy in the Western part of North Carolina. She and Jesse made a significant difference in their participation as a team for so many years. I loved Marie who was sweet and caring and determined when she was focused on a cause she believed in. I regret that over the years distance and age have prevented us from staying close but she is as close to my heart as ever and just knowing Marie is not in Asheville leaves an open place as I wave goodbye to so many of our early women volunteers of the Republican Women’s Organization where we learned so much and made such lasting relationships. Our old friend, Mary Alice Warren was saddened yesterday when I told her the news about Marie. Mary Alice is also a Past President and N.C. National Committeewoman who is still as sharp as ever at age 96. With love and happy memories to Patti and all the family.

  5. Marie Ledbetter was the Buncombe County Republican Women’s Club’s cornerstone. She spent a lifetime working tirelessly for our conservative efforts. Her ability to stand up for our traditional Christian values and her work ethic will be greatly missed.

  6. VFW Auxiliary #891, 626 New Leicester Hwy, Asheville, NC 28806, wishes to express sympathy to the family of Marie by sending a $25.00 contribution in her memory to the Care Foundation of WNC, Inc., 121 Laurel Hills Drive, Morganton, NC 28655, as stated in her obituary. She was a Life Member of this Auxiliary. Her membership dates back to Nov. 11, 1983.

My husband Walter Glance has known Jesse and Marie for many years. Marie and Walter are both graduates of Woodfin School, although he graduated several years after she did. He knew the whole family because they moved to Woodfin from the N. Buncombe area and Marie’s dad has a store in Elk Mountain. He knew her sister and two brothers. Walter and I both have memories of the friendship we had with Marie and Jesse at the VFW Post 891 monthly breakfasts which they always attended. They were a loving, caring couple and contributed outstanding service to our Community, State and Country.

Willie Glance, VFW Auxiliary #891 Treasurer
