Mark Thomas Goodson of Candler, NC, beloved husband, father, Popi and friend passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2016.
Mark was born May 11, 1942 in Candler, NC to Cash and Hilda Goodson. He spent his youth walking the hills of Candler trapping, fishing and playing sports. He graduated from Enka High School (1960), received an AA degree from Mars Hill College (1962) and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from N.C. State University (1964). After satisfying his military obligation in the U.S. Army Reserve he spent the next 13 years working as an engineer in North Carolina & Virginia for various contracting companies. In 1969 he married the love of his life, Carol Moncada, and they had three children. In 1978 Mark founded and was president of Tennoca Construction Company, building roads for NCDOT. The company is now owned by his two sons, Tim and Brad. He loved his wife of nearly 47 years, road building, family, fishing, the outdoors, woodcarving, coaching youth league baseball and basketball, and traveling. He was a very humble and quiet man known for his integrity and love of family. He was a member of Hominy Lodge 491 and of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol Goodson; his children, Tim (Melanie) Goodson, Brad (Wendi) Goodson and Laura (Wes) Shields; grandchildren, Georgia Dover, Dover Goodson, Caroline, Copeland and Carlyle Goodson, Emma, Cody and Tucker Shields; sister Louise Rash; brothers Robert (Betty) Goodson and Carlus (June) Goodson; many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 5 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a memorial service will be Friday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m., both at Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
Memorials can be made to American Kidney Association (www.kidneyfund.org), Western Carolina Rescue Mission (PO Box 909., Asheville, NC 28802) or to a charity of your choice.

Carol, Brad, Tim, & Laura, I just got word and read of Mark’s passing. I want to express my deepest sympathy to the entire Goodson family at a very difficult time. Mark was one of the finest people I have ever met. The Goodson family always treated me with the utmost respect and I tried to always return this courtesy. Mark will be missed by everyone. Once again, my condolences to the Goodson family.

I was best friend’s with Laura, but Mr and Mrs Goodson were wonderful role models of family and friends. Fond memories were made with them and will never be forgotten. Thank You for always having an open home of love and laughter for me. A wonderful family and wonderful friends of Laura and Wes…Kevin specifically remembering Tim. One day, we will all meet again!

If you remember Mark you remember his great smile and quiet deep personality. He was just a great, kind and funny funny person with a dry sense of humor. His life was well lived with God, family and career. RIP Mark you have left a lasting legacy for your family and friends.
We will miss seeing Mark at church but are so glad that he and Scott had time to reminisce about their friendship over the years. We love you and your family. Scott said he really liked Mark’s photo and that this is how he remembers Mark.
