Marshall Otto Duckett, 90, of 10085 New Leicester Highway, Leicester, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital.
Mr. Duckett was born October 12, 1914, in Buncombe County but lived in Madison County for most of his life. He was the son of the late James Berry Duckett, a Civil War Veteran, and Flora Rogers Duckett, who at the time of her death was the last area Civil War veteran widow. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carmel and Kermit Duckett, two sisters Daisy Austin and Verna Black, and a grandson Chris Ramsey.
Mr. Duckett was a farmer and was retired from American Enka. He was a member of Little Sandy United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Pauline Reeves Duckett of the home; two daughters, Wylma Jean Duckett King and her husband E.J. of Weaverville and Argylle Lee Duckett Woike and her husband Leonard of Pickens, SC; a son Michael Kevin Duckett and his wife Myrna of Leicester; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces, including Grace Reeves, who was special to him.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Little Sandy United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Worley and Dennis Brown and Mr. Eddie King officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
His family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service and they wish to extend special thanks to those who came to visit, sent cards, phone calls and food; those who helped with lifting and helping when he fell; and those who helped with the maintenance and other chores so that he could remain at home until he was hospitalized two weeks ago. The family also extends gratitude to Dr. Craig Mills and his staff, B&B Pharmacy staff, and the Leicester Volunteer Fire Department.
Flowers will be appreciated as will memorial donations to the Little Sandy United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund and the Leicester Volunteer Fire Department.
