Mary Ann McNeil Garren, 79, died Sunday, May 29, 2005, at Flesher's Fairview Health Care.
A native of Smokemont, NC, she was a daughter of the late William S. McNeil, Sr. and Sarah Crowell McNeil. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Clifton Garren, who died in 1973. Mrs. Garren was retired from the National Weather Records after 35 years of service and was a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Garren and his wife Donna of Arden and Bill Garren and his wife Lynne of Belton, SC; a brother, William S. McNeil, Jr. of England, AR; three grandchildren, Steve Garren, Gena Crenshaw and John Garren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Cecil Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Through the years, I have often remembered how close you were to your mother when we were in high school. Remembering that she was there to take you on dates (until you got your license), and always so kind and patient. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

s been a long time since you and John Cheesborough were friends at Biltmore Estate. He died in 1979 of a heart attack. We have 3 children living in NC and I am still in Asheville and remarried. I send my heart felt sympathy to you and your family. Virginia Cheeseborough Hatheway
