Mary Etta Ray Hawkins, 67, of 78 Weaver Blvd., Weaverville, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
Born on April 27, 1940 in Yancey Co., Ms. Hawkins was a daughter of the late Rupert and Bronnie Hawkins Ray.
Ms. Hawkins was a former employee of Connie Fashions and more recently at Billie Kay Apparel Co. She was also a resident and volunteer of the Brian Center in Weaverville, where she was honored with many awards. She was the Red Hat Society Den Mother, and was a member of Carson Chapel Baptist Church.
Ms. Hawkins is survived by her daughter, Annette Allen and husband Sean, of Weaverville; son, Mike Brown and wife Debra, of Fairview; sister, Linda Davis; and five grandchildren, Jason, Crissy, Kenneth, Timothy, and Steven.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Donald Welborn officiating. Burial will follow at West Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

I am so very sorry about your loss. I know it is hard to believe but it does get easier. Thank you so much for being there for me when I lost my Dad. I am here for you and you have so many people that are here for you. You have helped me so much through my loss and you and your wife are very special people. I understand what you are going through that doesn’t make it better but it helps to know someone understands.
