Mary Holcombe Chambers, of 95 Holcombe Cove Road, Candler, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Center.
Mrs. Chambers was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Charles Affie Holcombe and Bonnie Meadows Holcombe. She was preceded in death by her son, John Ted Chambers, who died in 1991, and by a sister, Dorothy Ray and two brothers, Charles A. Holcombe and William T. Holcombe.
Mrs. Chambers worked for the US Air Force Weather Service for 28 years. After retiring, she worked for the NC Forest Service. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Seventh-day Adventist Church and volunteered with Elder Care, the American Red Cross and Maranatha Flights International.
She is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Carter of Candler and Marjorie Stockton of Fairview and six grandchildren, Marc, Dean, Tim, Frank, and Ruth Chambers and Lynn Gilbert, all of Florida.
A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Don Dronen at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at Mt. Pisgah Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Community Services Program at Mt. Pisgah Seventh-day Adventist Church or to Maranatha Volunteers International.
The loss of a loved one is always a sorrow. Mary was so cheerful on the phone when we would call. Her presence will be missed in our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and the rest of our family.
