Mrs. Wheeler was born in Durham, NC, and was a daughter of the late Roland and Cora Winstead Register, and she was married to Graham T. Wheeler, who died in 1995.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Gail W. and Ken Toney of Asheville; one granddaughter and her husband, Christina and David Hunter of Weaverville; one great-grandson, Tate Wilson Hunter; one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis R. and Dan Pautler of Murphysboro, IL; two nieces and eleven nephews. Also surviving are Carolyn R. Waldrup of Apex and Charles M. Rodgers of Charlotte.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Pete Banyai officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
