Mary W. 'Kitty' Abee

Mary W. “Kitty” Abee, 78, formerly of Winchester Place, Asheville, died Thursday, June 24,
1999.

Mrs. Abee was born in Salisbury, was a daughter of the late J.N. and Ada Shaver Wise and was married to John R. Abee, who died in 1971.  She attended Appalachian State University, Western Carolina University and Asheville-Buncombe
Technical College, and taught for 31 years in the Buncombe County system, primarily at Venable and
Johnson Elementary Schools.   She was a member of the NCAE and a life member of the NEA.  She was also a member of Abernethy United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir and the Happy Abernethy Senior Citizens Group.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Julius and Karen Abee of Leicester and john R.
and Pat Abee of Simpsonville, SC;  three grandchildren, Brandon Abee of Oklahoma and Chris and Allison Abee of South Carolina, and a
great-grandchild, Tristan Abee of Oklahoma.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Patrick Welch officiating.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Abernethy United Methodist Church, 1418 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806, or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105-1905.

Your mother, Mrs Abee, was my 5th grade teacher at Venable Elementary School, and we all loved her! …charming, sweet, and a very good teacher..those are the things i remember about her…i was ‘SherryAnne’ to her…her southern accent putting a song to a very shy little girls name(me) and day! a remarkable personality with a love for her students and a kind heart, very rare in most educators then and now …i have remembered her fondly from time to time, over the years…God bless your soul Mrs. Abee..Rest in peace sweet lady…i am sorry for your loss and sorry i found this so late!
