Michael Owen Bruckner, 60, of Asheville, died on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. Mr. Bruckner was a son of the late Lt. Colonel Max Donald and Sarah Owen Bruckner. He was born in Mineral Wells, TX, where he was baptized into the catholic community as an infant. He was confirmed as a young man at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fayetteville, NC. Mr. Bruckner is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol Schell Bruckner; brother Don Bruckner and wife Louise (children, Max, Sarah), brother James and wife Rhonda Bruckner (children Mackenzie, Nicholas), Bob and Lucy Schell, Dave and Becky Schell Mietzner (Kyle, Ellee, Evangeline, Irene and Jessica). Mike was most recently employed by the State of North Carolina as an employment consultant. He previously worked as a chef, an executive recruiter, and a photographer. He was a member of the Lighthouse Keepers Society. Among his favorite pastimes were travel, photography, and cooking. He never attended a gathering of family and friends without his camera. He looked for the unique side of life wherever and whenever he was and recorded it! Mike's gourmet meals were enjoyed by gathering of all sizes. Mike loved people! He always looked on the bright side of life. His many friends will remember his gentle spirit, his genuine interest in them and the way he approached this especially difficult time in his life with hope and courage. A memorial service for Mr. Bruckner will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Dr. Michael McFarland officiating. His family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation: Pancreatic Cancer Research, at www.lustgarten.org.

  4. Dear Carol, Bob and Lucy….
I read of Mike’s passing in Tommy Ridgeway’s Facebook post this morning. The verse that I took comfort from at Judy’s death is from Psalm 116:15 – ‘His loved ones are very precious to Him and He does not lightly let them die.’ I pray that you too might find comfort is this verse. His peace be with you – Bob

  5. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you gather to remember the beautiful life of Michael. I knew him as a child but continue to feel his presence today through his beautiful pictures posted on facebook. May he rest in peace and know that he touched so many lives.

  6. Dear Carol, please accept my deepest sympathy. I met you at Mrs. Bruckner’s wake and spoke to you on the phone a time or two. Mike and I met when we were teenagers going to St. Patricks Church youth group. I had a crush on him but he always thought of me as a little sister. He was a wonderful friend and he used to help me with my homework in high school. I am so sorry for your loss and I can only hope that wonderful memories of him will bring you comfort. I know how much he loved you. Christ’s peace to you and the whole family.

  7. The Bruckner Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.I worked with Mike and he was a true inspiration with the way he dealt with his health issues and continued to do a wonderful job with our customers.I also want to pass along condolences from my cousin Mike Sizemore.I found out this weekend at a family gathering that he roomed with Mike down at East Carolina. He was going to be out of town in Florida so he couldn’t make the service.Once again, I count it as a blessing to have got to known Mike and work with him.God bless you all.
