  70. To the man with a heart of gold and the mind of Fred Sanford. I grew up in Bent Creek and have known Mike I think since 1967 when we were maybe 10 and 11 years old. We were best friends growing up along with CJ Motley, Robbie McAfoos, Thomas Grieves, Henry Fisher and others. I can remember the first time I saw him playing with Robbie McAfoos, that lived next door to him, in their Army fatigues and the last time I saw him on my birthday the day before his death. Mike dropped by and brought me a print he and Susie made from a photo I had taken of my hand holding a silver dollar his dad had given him that he has carried until all the embossing has worn away and the coin is smooth and thin. I’m sure many of you have not only seen that coin he was so proud of but held it as well. We built chopper bicycles as kids and later motorcycles in his garage. His family always treated me like a son and a brother. You are truly one of a kind and are truly missed.

  71. Deepest condolences to this precious family. The Sargent family adored this beautiful soul…Rip Mike know you are deeply cherished and loved.

  72. Mike was maybe in 2nd grade when the Milhaupt family moved to Bent Creek in 1966. His sister Sherry & I were good friends & I knew his entire family. We lost contact but reconnected in recent years thru my brother’s, Jeff & Jack. We would often run into Mike at Stone Ridge Tavern.
Mike took us to his shop to show us his collections. Then he introduced us to Shakeys for a cold can of Bud. We hung out & reminisced for hours. He was the same sweet, easy going Mike with his perpetual smile. Everyone knew him. Everyone loved him. My deepest condolences go to Susie, whom I regret I never got to meet & the entire Bowman family.

  73. Mike and I would walk home from grade school and play in his mom and dad back yard ride bikes all around west asheville trade pop bottles at mays market then go buy candy and stuff at frenches we lost touch but our pathes crossed quite often and we would remember of our childhood memories mike was always a great guy love you see you later sorry for your loss Kathy and family

  74. Everybody’s lost a good friend. I grew up with Mike in Bent Creek and can’t believe he’s gone, but he was doing what he loved doing and one day we’ll all be with him and riding forever! Prayers to his family! Greek

  75. I have known Mike all of my life and even worked around him. He always had a smile and you would smile every time you seen him. He was a genuine and heartfelt man. I’m happy to have known him and appreciate him for being an outstanding man. Thank you for always making me smile.

  76. So, so sorry and sad to hear of Mike’s passing. I went to elementary school with Mike and our paths crossed again a couple of years ago. 79. Mike was the first person I met when I moved to Asheville just over a year ago. He welcomed me and quickly became a close friend and mentor. We shared jokes and a love for music. He helped me in multiple times of need, he gave advice and guidance, and he provided endless laughs and smiles. I am so thankful for the good times and for his friendship! I only knew Mike a short time but his impact will last a lifetime! There aren’t enough words to describe what an amazing man he was. He will be missed immensely.

  80. Susan we are so sorry for your loss. Mike will be truly missed. Our uncle Jay (LJ) thought the world of him too. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Teresa and the entire family.

Lisa & Clement and David & Dawn Creasman

  81. Mike was literally my oldest friend. Our sisters, Sherry and Debbie, shared a birthday and went to kindergarten together at St Joan, so we were about 3 years old when we met. We shared comic books in his closet on Maple Crescent and hid from Teresa in the tree house. Both of our families moved to Bent Creek and the fun continued. He threw rocks at my window on his way home from scouts. We rolled yards on Halloween. We watched Mount St Helens blow at his place. Daryl and I ran into him a few weeks ago at Stone Ridge. We’ve been out of town and I was so shocked to hear of his passing. A little piece of my heart went with him.My love and prayers for the family.

  82. Susie, I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I can’t even imagine …
Mike was a wonderful guy! He was so good to mom too. You are in my prayers. Please, if i can do anything, let me know. Love you, Roz
