We all know though that’s carried on in Steve cause he sounds so much like his father and he too carries that sense of humor buddy was so very well known for. I know everyone calls him Miles but I grew up knowing him as Buddy. Anyway Miles aka Buddy was always been kind to me and so have all of you. Thankyou for that.

  31. So many things I’m going to miss: Spelling questions and golden oldie jokes. War stories, that curled my hair and made me laugh till my sides hurt. Corn pone music night, and sharing our favorite tunes together. Aunt Mary’s birthday cake, chicken fingers and the smell of Borkum Riff. So many things about you that made this world such a special place.

Mostly, I’m just missing you Dad.

  32. Pat & Belinda , What can we say….to loose such a sweet & carrying friend. They don’t make many like Miles! He added such joy in our lives for so many years and I really enjoyed our times out of town in the motels him & Jerry stayed in ,in their wild ‘investigations’. He always stayed in late in the mornings,(said to avoid traffic!!) so we stayed up late at night & just cut up. We said last time we spoke when we both got better we would continue our birthday lunch’s but he will have to wait on me to join him.Jerry will miss their ‘conversations’ on getting things done (you know what I mean)at Ingles. What a team. Starkey & Hutch!? They couldn’t even have heart attacks without each other ! I guess that about says it all … we send you all our love and prayers & look forward to joining Miles in heaven when he needs us..Love ya….

  33. My deepest sympathies, and prayers go out to you. I worked with Miles on the APD years ago, and he was so much fun and a great officer, you could always know he had your back.

  35. Pat and family,

I was truly saddened to hear of your loss. Miles and I went through 12 years of school together. We were part of the West Asheville connection. Miles was one of a kind. We graduated in 1962 and went in different directions but after 48 years I still cherish the times we had together. Miles is still that wild and crazy guy in my mind and heart. God bless all the family.

  47. I want to say I’m sorry that I cannot be there with everyone, but you are in my thoughts and prayers. Miles most certainly would have given me a hard time for quoting Jim Valvano instead of Dean Smith, but remember the quote: ‘To me, there are three things we all should do every day. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears.’ Well, all 3 apply here, because even in this difficult and sad time, it’s hard to think of Miles without smiling due to a dry remark, a joke that came out of nowhere, or a look. My love to all of you. Dave and family.

  48. Pat, I am sorry to read of Miles passing. I know he will be missed. The years have gone by quickly seems like since high school, but I remember Miles as a gentleman and a sweet spirit. May God be your families comfort during this time. Love, June Rice Dockery

  49. My sincere sympathy to you, Pat, and your family. I was a ‘Hugh Goforth’ fan in grammer school; and graduated with ‘Miles.’ His humor was always refreshing. Dot and Pat remain two of my most admired people, from an obvious family of integrity. Please feel free to contact me at any time. Terry passed away at 53.

    Familiar with grief,
    Joyce Ann Melton Lee Smith

I am saddened to learn of ‘Uncle Buddy”s death. I pray that the LORD will give you peace and comfort in these days- may He bless your family during this difficult time.

  55. Pat & Family- I was so sad to read of Mile’s passing. I haven’t talked to him in several years and I hate that. Time slips away from us sometimes.
I worked with Miles (and Jerry Banks) at Ingles about 18 years ago. Please don’t feel sorry for me, I wouldn’t trade those days for anything. I loved Miles so much and he could always make us laugh. My running joke with him was the fact that I could smell him (his cologne) about a minute before I saw him and due to this he could never be a secret agent or sneak up on us.May peace be with you during this difficult time.

  56. I am truly sorry for the family of Miles Goforth. I served with him in the Sheriff’s Dept. and he was an honorable man. He will be sorely missed.
