  1. Jack, Sorry to hear about your mother, losing a loved one is never
easy, but our thoughts and prayers
are with you and Mary Ruth.

  2. Every morning I check the Asheville-Citizen Times web site to keep up with what is happening in Asheville. I was saddened to see the obituary on Nelle Garren. Lib, Sarah and Nelle Garren were always such a part of our life in Asheville. I worked for 8 years at the old JCPenney on Battery Park Avenue and I knew how instrumental Nelle Garren was to the operation of that store. She was also very nice to me on both a personal and professional level, I appreciated that very much! When I told Frances Ballew about the passing of Nelle she responded with ‘…I guess that is the end of my life in Asheville’.

  3. I sure will miss Mrs. Garren! She was just like a second Mom to me and always nice to my family. My sister, Mary Ruth, and I share many wonderful memories of Holidays at her home. May the Lord bless and keep her always in his mansion above!

  4. To Jack, Sandra and all of Family….
I worked at J. C. Penney on Battery Park Avenue, in the office with Mrs. Garren for a number of years.

She was a wonderful person… I have always said that she was one of the most important mentors in my life…. and I have also said that she taught me all that I knew about doing office work correctly….

I am retired now from the working world, but I can truly say that she taught me the best and right way of doing things, which I used through out my working career….

She was such a dear person to me.
