A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late James Andrew and Maude Holcombe Allen. He was a member of Bent Creek Baptist Church and retired from American Enka with 34 years service.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mozell A. Allen; son, Warren Michael Allen of Avery’s Creek; sister, Viola Marshall of Arden; brother, Rev. James Allen of Leicester; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at Bent Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Roger Rearden officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.
Memorials may be made to the Activities Funds Council at the Oaks at Sweeten Creek, 3864 Sweeten Creek Road, Arden, NC 28704.

TO The Allen Family,
Just want you to know that I am sorry to here about Mr. Allen as Helen and I called him (Papaw). He was a good kind harded man and would do anything for you he could. He was like a grandfather to Helen that she never had. I remeber when she stayed with them throughout the summer and she was little they would go get water from the spring. When I came home Helen and Papaw would always be drinking water out of his special cup. We will always remeber him with love and respect. With Much Love,
