OTTIS FURMAN BABB Ottis Furman Babb, 91, of Asheville, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Babb was born June 4, 1917, in Buncombe County and was retired from the Weather Records Center in the old Grove Arcade. He is survived by a daughter, Frances Griggs, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Private interment and service will be at Green Hills Cemetery. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.

  1. My family had the pleasure of getting to know Ottis at the Villa. Ottis was my father’s dining companion. I’ll always remember his sweet smile and warm greetings. He spoke highly of all his family. May God comfort you in your loss. My dad is Lloyd Penley, he was at the Villa almost a year and truly enjoyed his time with Ottis.   4. I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to you and family during this time of sorrow. I worked at the Arcade Building in the 60’s and met Mr. & Mrs. Babb during that time and thought a lot of both. My prayer is that you will find some comfort in knowing others share in your sorrow.

    I fondly recall that you were my very first date which your Dad made sure that my Dad would be the chaperon!!
    My wife of almost 40 years, Nene Shuford, and I have recently built a home in Biltmore Forest and are loving rekindling old acquaintances.
