It is with extreme sadness I receive the news of Pat’s passing. I guess I have known Pat since the mid-70’s when I began working on the SPB. We saw each other often and I always enjoyed being around him. I enjoyed his stories and humor. I always liked being around him because when we parted I felt good. He always seemed up beat to me. May the Lord bless his family and fill your minds and hearts with loving memories. The memories will live on within me. Respectfully, Evan Nebeker, Mississippi State University.
Janet and Family,
I was so sorry to hear about Pat. Pat was a good friend and we spent many hours together working on entomology issues. He loved the work, loved his family and enjoyed fishing. He always talked about enjoying retirement. I am glad he got to enjoy several years of retirement He was a person of great character and will be missed by many. Our prayers are with you and your family, Bob & Martha Anderson

Dear Janet and family:
You and your family are in our prayers. Pat was a dear friend. I really enjoyed working with him. Jessie loved trick-or-treating at your home. Pat always teased her and made her smile. I’ll miss our talks at the grocery store. He was indeed a special person and beautiful human being. He had a spirit about him that made you happy. If you need us we are just up the road. Love, Connie, David, Jake and Jessie Reynolds
Pat and I first met in 1978. He was a veteran entomologist and I was new. He was a mentor and a person you could talk to. He and I shared some memorable days in lift trucks trying to figure out the population of the forest tent caterpillar in South Carolina. I will always count Pat as one of the best professionals I ever worked with. I cherish his memory and the work we did together. My Condolences to all his family and friends in N.C. Jim
Dear Janet and Family
I am the State Pest Management Specialist in Alabama. When I received the news of Pat’s dearth, I was deeply pained. I had the great honor of working with Pat while I was in the USFS and as a State Employee the past 34 years. He was without a doubt the best the FS had in working with people and at the same time exhibiting a deep knowledge of forest insects. On top of this I considered Pat a dear friend. On and off the job, we shared laughter and tears over business as well as personal dealings. My prayers go out to you and your family. We will miss Pat but will never forget him.
Barry family,
It is with heavy heart that I recall our last meeting. I cared for Pat those last days and saw the precious bond that he had with his family and the love that was shared between all of you. I will remember that always when I think of Mr. Barry.Even when his body was gravely ill his heart and soul were peaceful and kind. My family will continue to pray for you and in this sorrowful time please know that ‘The Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking.’ Psalm 34:18
Sincerely,
The Roper family,
Sheri , Sam, Samuel

We were so sorry to hear about Pat. It was really a shock when Aunt Edith called to let us know. Pat was a great person and I know he will be missed. It’s hard to know what to say. I’ve been there when Daddy died in 2002 and Moma in December 2003. It’s hard but know that he is in a beautiful place with no pain.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Janet and Family:
Patrick’s passing has brought back memories of ‘old days, old times, old friends.’ Know that we will continue to remember all of you. Blessings. Love.
Mrs. Barry and family, I really have appreciated Pat’s southern pine beetle help in Tennessee over the years. He always kept me up to date on beetle problems in the states surrounding our state through his reports and personal contact. He truly was Mr. Southern Pine Beetle for me and served the people and cared for the land. My prayers are with you and may God comfort you and keep you under His everlasting wings ( Psalm 91). May God bless you. Bruce
Please accept my condolences. I knew Pat from the first grade on and don’t remember a time he didn’t have a smile on his face. So
sorry for your loss.
I was a research entomologist with the Forest Service and knew Pat as far back as when he was in college. We attended meetings together and participated in forest insect activities through the years. He will be greatly missed by me as well as the forestry community. We send our prayers to you and your family. Harry Yates
I worked with Pat at the Asheville Field Office and was shocked to hear of his passing. He was a very kind man to work with and always had a smile on his face. I am so sorry about your loss.
Dear Janet –
I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Pat’s untimely death. I have known and worked with Pat for the last 20 + years of his service, and it was always a pleasure to ramble around various National Forests with him. I shared quite a few good times in Pat’s (and Remion’s) company, and he will be sorely missed. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
best regards,
Mark
