Paula Mae Youngblood, of Asheville, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 23, 2020 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Paula was born in New Jersey to Frederick Charles Blessing and Ellen Turko Blessing in 1961. She moved with her family while in grade school to Alabama and graduated high school there. She subsequently earned bachelor’s degrees in social work and later elementary education with emphasis on special education. She is predeceased by her parents. She leaves behind her husband of 33 years, Dr. Robert Youngblood, and a son, Alexander, as well as three sisters, Dawn Blessing, of Toronto, Canada, Joy Graham (Kerry), of Bowling Green, KY, and Diane Blessing (Ed), of Fairplay, CO. She also leaves one brother, Charles Blessing (Ruth), of Lakewood, NJ as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins too numerous to count and her beloved golden retrievers, “Sammy” and “Trouble”. May Paula rest in peace.

Guestbook

  1. I will forever miss my dear sweet friend. Quite sure that she was one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. We walked the neighborhood for almost 20 years…it was more therapy and friendship than exercise to us. We could walk for 2 hours and be tired of walking but never tired of talking! Bobby and Xander and doggies—you were loved by her so much❤️ You now have a sweet angel in heaven looking out for you all.

  2. From Dayna and Mike Hare, along with daughters, Tiffany, Shelly, Stephanie, and our extended families – we want to extend our deepest condolences. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. We are so very sorry for this loss.

  3. I met Paula here where Dr. Youngblood worked, she was a very pleasant person and a quite lady. You could tell she was a special lady. I know she will be so missed by her family and friends. May God Bless her family at this time.

  4. Heartfelt condolences to Bobby and Xander. Paula was a dear neighbor and will be greatly missed. Her consistent uplifting spirit, sweet soft voice, and kindness was much appreciated. Love & prayers, Tim and Becky Davidson

  5. Thinking of you all and will always remember Paula with her dogs and her work at Estes. She had a gentle nature that endeared her to all she came in contact. I’m so sorry.

  6. Bob,
We were so sorry to hear of the devastating loss of your lovely wife. Our hearts go out to you and Alexander and Paula’s family. Our deepest condolences.

  7. Paula was not only a client but a friend. She loved Xander so much and always wanted what was best for him. That love will stay with him forever and the Caskeys are sending love and condolences to this lovely family.

  8. For 20 years we had the pleasure of calling Paula a friend and neighbor. A loving mother and wife and devoted to her dogs. What a gap she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed. Sending love and pray to Bob and Xander.

Bobby and Xander you were prayed for and loved more than you will ever know but please find comfort that Paula is at peace: cancer free, treatment free, and worry free✝️🙌
Hold tight to all the great memories you shared over the years🙏🙏
    Love you both💗💗

  10. Paula was a light and joy to all, so caring and kind. Her legacy of helping children learn and succeed and her loving heart should guide us all. She was the kind of neighbor everyone wishes for – welcoming and ready to have some fun, especially at Halloween when she had an “empty nester” party for friends and neighbors. She had a deep love for her dogs and with them brought joy and comfort to many lonely or hurting people. May she rest and have eternal peace with the Lord.

  11. Rest in peace little sister, you are loved and missed terribly.

I know you will be a blessing to the souls you have joined in heaven as you were to us.

    You’re loving brother

  12. Dearest Bobby and family,
We are so very sorry for the loss of your wife, Paula. Although we never met your wife , she must have been a wonderful person. We pray you will find peace and comfort in knowing she’s at peace. Sincerely, Connie and David O’Dell

  13. Paula and her family visited her sister and our friend, Diane, often in the mountains of Colorado. The fun adventures, awesome dinners, and watching Xander grow up each visit will leave many, many smiles. Being dog people too, we connected like family. She is at peace and will be missed by so many.

Our sympathy and love to Bobby and Xander. She will be in all our hearts forever.
    Love,
    Sharon and Dave Alcalay

  14. I was a member of the Care Team with Paula at Biltmore UMC. She always did more than her share, always helping people. She always met everyone at church with a hug and smile.
She will be missed by so many! Deepest sympathy to the family.

  15. Over the course of many faithful years of membership, Paula was asked to be an essential part of her church’s building committee, staff/parish relations committee, the endowment committee, co-lead the care team, church secretary, a member of the administrative council and more. She approached each responsibility with grace, intelligence, a positive attitude, and a leadership style that used a light touch, a strong work ethic and a sense of humor. She was disciplined, well read, able to be alone and to be with others in heart, mind and Spirit. She touched our lives in a very tender, significant way that is hard to close. She delighted in her love for Bob and Xander; but Sammy and Trouble were a close second. 💕We join you and your extended family in your loss and offer our condolences. Jesus Christ conquered death. That is our hope and Paula’s reality.

  16. I just learned of Paula’s passing. So very sad. I trained in Radiology with Bobby in LA and NC and become good friends with them both. We ended up moving to different parts of the US and sadly lost touch. Here recently, I have been trying to reconnect with Bobby only to find out about Paula. I would love to talk to Bobby and haven’t been able to find his contact info, I would appreciate if anyone could help me. Paula was a truly beautiful human being with so much love for Bobby, her son, golden retrievers and life.
