Pearline Byrd Morrison, 91, died on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Givens Health Center in Asheville, NC, where she had recently relocated. Mrs. Morrison was born on September 23, 1927 in Benson, NC to the late Hervey and Hattie Byrd. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eldred Bristow “Tot” Morrison, Jr.; brothers, Cleo and Melvin Byrd and sisters, Mildred B. Johnston, Vivian B. Ullrich, and Genevieve B. Jackle. Pearline earned her nursing degree through the Cadet Nursing Corps at Highsmith Hospital. She spent the next 50 years helping others by serving as a nurse in Fayetteville, NC. A longtime active member of Hay Street United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Fellowship Sunday school class, the Prayer Chapel team, and was instrumental in starting Cornerstone, a supportive program for singles. She also participated in Roadrunners in Fayetteville. Pearline is survived by her brother, H.V. Byrd of Benson, NC as well as her three daughters; Beth Morrison Stanfield (Jim) of Durham, NC, Karen Morrison Hamilton (David) of Asheville, NC, and Ann Byrd Morrison of Fayetteville NC. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren; Matthew Stanfield (Amy) of Franklin, TN, Paul Stanfield (Beth) of Charlotte, NC, Bethany Stanfield Eledge (Eric) of Cleveland, TN, David Stanfield (Lorean) of Charleston, SC, Lauren Hamilton Woodall (Scott) of Weaverville, NC, Mark Hamilton of Charlotte, NC, and Hannah Morrison of Raleigh, NC; thirteen great-grandchildren, Nyah and Azari Stanfield; Noah and Jakob Stanfield, Elijah, James, Jesse, and Aaron Eledge; Micah, Asher, Ezra and Magnolia Pearl Stanfield; and Benjamin Woodall. Pearline passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her strong, sweet spirit, her quiet courage in the face of a challenge, and her superb mothering and grandmothering. A memorial service will be held in Fayetteville, NC on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Hay Street United Methodist Church. Visitation is at 10:00 am with service following at 11:00.
