Peter Krivatsy

Peter Krivátsy, 84, of 11 Jarnaul Avenue, Asheville, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2006, at the home of his daughter, Krisztina Krivátsy-Stern. Peter was born on April 7, 1922, in Budapest, Hungary. He received a Political Science degree from Pázmány University in Budapest. He was married to Nati Horváth on December 22, 1945. The family escaped from Hungary and came to the United States as refugees in 1956 after the Hungarian Revolution. After learning English, Peter obtained a Master’s of Library Science degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Peter began a new career as Rare Book Librarian at the National Library of Medicine at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He moved to Arden, North Carolina, in 1985 to care for his ailing mother. In his retirement, Peter took art classes at UNC-A, to follow in the footsteps of his father, György Krivátsy-Szüts, a well-known Hungarian painter. Peter is survived by his wife, Nati, two daughters, Krisztina Krivátsy-Stern of Asheville and Susana K. O’Hara of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Andrew Stern of Leasburg, North Carolina, Thomas Stern of Asheville, North Carolina, Stephen Stern of Salt Lake City, Utah, Thomas O’Hara of Rockledge, Florida, Christina O’Hara of Fairbanks, Alaska, and William O’Hara of Pensacola, Florida, and one great-granddaughter, Margaret Stern of Leasburg, North Carolina. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 1, 2007, at St. Eugene Catholic Church. Peter will be buried in the family memorial in the cemetery of Alba-Regia Chapel located on a hill near Berkeley Springs in West Virginia. The Chapel was built by the hands of Washington, D.C. area Hungarians.
