Philip Franklin Long, 48, of 118 Indian Branch Road, Candler, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Long was born in Watauga County and was a son of Gretchen Cole Long of Candler and the Rev. S. Dwight Long who died January 28, 2003. He was a graduate of Newberry, SC, High School and was employed as a butcher with Bi-Lo for 25 years and more recently with Food Lion for six years. In addition to his mother he is survived by a son, Brandon Burton Long of Candler and a daughter Amanda Lynn Long of Candler. Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton officiating. Private burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and request that memorials be made to Hominy Baptist Church Building Fund, 135 Candler School Road, Candler, NC 28715.

  1. it had been over ten years since i had seen phil and his family and i am very deeply saden to now hear of his passing and the passing of his dad(a great man). phil and i worked and roomed together for several years and he was truely one of the best friends i ever had or ever will have.
