Phillip Baxter Morgan, 77, of Candler, died Thursday, April 13, 2017.
A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Morgan was a son of the late Phillip Ernest and Flora Hyatt Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marie Robinson, and by brothers, Charles, Paul and James Morgan.
Mr. Morgan was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked for Norfolk Southern as a dispatcher, and after retirement enjoyed meeting for lunch with friends from the railroad. Following retirement from the railroad, he worked as a transfer driver for Ken Wilson Ford and Harry's On The Hill.
Surviving are his daughter, Jennifer Morgan Best and husband Daniel; special grandson, Chance Morgan Best; step-grandson, Nathan Paul Best and his children Colton Ty Best and Caysley Morgan Best; sisters, Barbara Zachary, Becky Ouderkirk (Gary), Joyce Gunter (Paul), and Teresa Pennington; sisters-in-law, Ann Morgan and Norma Morgan; and numerous other family members.
Funeral services for Mr. Morgan will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
I am so sorry Jen and family, I will always remember your daddy, he was bigger than life, and you are his most precious daughter! Always remember the good times, the vacations, and the fun!d
