Ralph Lance Buckner, 81, died Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the CarePartners Solace Center. A native of Asheville, Mr. Buckner was a son of the late Carol Lance Buckner and Gladys Llewellyn Buckner. He was a sergeant with the US Army in the 1950's and was a business entrepreneur, owning and managing a number of motels and other businesses in the area. He was best known, however, for owning and operating the Tastee-Freez in West Asheville along with his wife, Jennie. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Pressley "Jennie" Buckner; daughters, Paula Lynn Archer and Angela Gayle Buckner; son, Randall Bartlett; grandchildren, Clayton and Christopher Archer, Jennifer Thomas, and Hannah and Haley Bartlett; sister, Jane Lanford and brothers, Joe and John Buckner. A memorial service will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Royal officiating. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard Memorial Team. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service. Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to Manna Food Bank, 627 Swannanoa River Road, Asheville, NC 28805.

  7. Angie, I know how much your father meant to you and I am so sorry for your loss. You used to talk about Ralph so much when we were on the sixth floor of the courthouse I felt like I knew him myself.

  8. May the Buckner family take comfort in knowing that their beloved Ralph is in a better place devoid of pain and suffering. He was a King among his family and peers. Our King Ralph may be gone but he will be long remembered by those who really loved him. Long live the King.
