Ray “Terry” McMinn, 68, peacefully passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. McMinn was born in Henderson County to the late Jesse Albert McMinn and Polly Kate MacMahan McMinn. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Middleton and Dorothy Henderson and two brothers, Kenneth McMinn and Norman McMinn.
Terry could play any musical instrument with strings, and could play a song without missing a note after hearing it one time. He loved music, he loved the mountains, and he loved his large and diverse family, especially his children. They will all miss him but will never forget him sitting on the porch with a glass of tea, picking his guitar, and telling stories, some of which might even be true.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy McMinn; two sons, Jason McMinn and Dustin McMinn; three sisters, Noma Lee Taylor, Elena Williams and Lois Tucker; three brothers, his twin Jerry McMinn, Rick McMinn and Michael McMinn.
A memorial celebration is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 4:00 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Rd in Arden.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Homeward Bound WNC.

To my family, I am so sorry that I cannot be with you at this time when we are all grieving for the loss of are brother Terry. As we all know as we grow older the one thing we need is our health and it leaves us the quickest. I want y’all to know how much I love you and wish I could be there and hold you in my arms and comfort you but alas that can’t be. Just know you are in my heart. Rick you are a blessing. Amy hold tight to family it will bring you through these hard times.
So sorry to hear of Terry passing away. A friend and classmate EHS 1968. A very talented kid at school and person who we were fortunate to enjoyed his talent throughout his life.
Rick, Dolly and I are so sorry to heard of your brother’s passing; he sounds like someone we would have been proud to know..
Please accept our deepest sympathy.
Al and Dolly Hope
My heart was broken when I heard of Terry’s passing. Terry and I have been friends for over 50 years and I have always considerd him one of my oldest and dearest friends. I spent most of my teenage years going to the Teenage Canteen to listen to the bands he was in. Terry you were such a talent and will be missed. We love you. Rest in the arms of the Angels.
So hard to believe our sweet Terry is gone. He had the sweetest smile and always parted with a hug, a big smile and I love you. He was one of a kind and will be missed. He played at our wedding and was such a joy! Sam said he was truly a good friend and I think everyone who knew him felt the same way. We are all sorry that Jerry won’t be home for this memorial…we were all hoping to see him. It has been 50 years for some of us. Prayers and Blessings for the family at this time. Love Sam & Gale Williams Huntley
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Terry. We’ve been friends for most of our lives. A talented man with a big heart. I never heard him say a bad thing about anyone. I wish there were more people like him. We will miss him dearly.
I worked with Terry at Borg Warner until he retired in 2016. He shared his military career, love of music (once invited me to a gig), and martial arts experience (even showed me a few things). He was a good man that I’m glad to have known. We got the news on Monday at Borg, got a card for everyone to sign and the announcement of the memorial on Saturday. We are sorry to hear of his passing.
thank you Sarah and Boyce for your thoughts and love for our family. I will tell Mama of your thoughtfulness.
I am so sorry to hear of Terry’s passing. Terry was a great friend and musical ‘buddy’ to me when my brother Marc and I operated ‘Pick and Grin’ music store on Merrimon avenue. I will be praying for all the family.
Blessings to you!
