The Rev. Floyd Elbert Watts, 90, of 122 Davis Chapel Church Road, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 15, 2000.
Rev. Watts was a Freewill Baptist minister and had pastored many area churches in Buncombe, Haywood and Madison Counties, most recently Mountain View Baptist Church in Leicester. He was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church in
Haywood County. He retired from the American Enka Corporation with 41 years of service. He was born October 29, 1909, son of the late Thomas and Eula Smith Watts. Preceding Rev. Watts in death were a daughter, Virginia Lou and a grandson, Kenneth Dewayne Davis. Also brothers, Albert, Lane, Fred and the Rev. Alonzo
Watts and sisters, Elva Curtis and Grace West.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Myrtle Davis Watts, son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Austin and Lou Watts; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Neil Davis and daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Bill O’Kelley, all of Candler; brothers, the Rev. Berry Watts of Newport, Tenn., Hobert Watts and the Rev. Richard Watts of Candler; sister, Georgina Elliott of Asheville; eight grandchildren, ten great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. The Rev. David Wheeler and the Rev. Jennis Sluder will officiate with burial following at Piney Mountain Methodist Church Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and
honorary pallbearers will be the ministers of the French Broad Freewill Baptist Ministers Association.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 pm Monday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home.
