Rex McMee Butler

Asheville ~ Rex McMee Butler, 84, stepped out into the portals of heaven and into the presence of the Lord at Mountain Area Hospice on Thursday, March 30, 2006.
He was the son of the late Lon and Minnie Anderson Butler. He was preceded in death by two wives, Dorothy Butler and Louise Butler and an extended family of brothers and sisters.
Some of his fondest memories and great stories he shared with his family was of his childhood growing up on the Biltmore Estate.
Mr. Butler served his country in the US Army during WW II as a MP; he received several medals, especially as a sharp shooter. He retired from Sayles Biltmore Bleacheries.
He began attending Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Skyland when his mother took him as a baby. He became a member and faithfully attended until the call came to come home.
To all who knew him, he was a kind and loving man, who took care of his family and loved his Lord. His life was a testament to his faith.
He is survived by his loving wife Betty Butler of Asheville; four daughters, Shirley Lamb of Leicester, Debra Owens of Asheville, Sherrie Hare of Fairview and Crystal Harris of Asheville; two sons, Randy Harris and Rev. Rick Harris both of Asheville; brother, Bill Butler and two sisters, Ella Jay Maynard and Betty Sayles all of Asheville; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Robinson, Rev. Willard Pruitt and Rev. James Sayles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Mike Butler, Randy Butler, Jerry Whitaker, Mitch Butler, Walter Dockings and Rick Harris. Honorary pallbears will be Keith Dockins, Mike Huntsinger, Max Whitaker, Richard and Cody Meadows.
