In Loving Memory of our Little Brother, Richard Ochoa (AKA: Ricky Montez), 43, of Asheville, who died Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Ricky was born August 25, 1967, in Jacksonville, FL. He was a graduate of Enka High School, where he was well loved and liked. His teacher, Miss Anderson, was a particular help to him. Ricky's whole world was his daughter Kaylie, whom he loved and cherished more than anything else. She gave him strength and love, and he thought of her all the time. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Rios Martinez, who died September 2003; and by siblings Molly Montez, who died in 2001, Salvador Montez, who died in 1983, and Peter Martinez, who died in 1965. He is survived by his daughter, Kaylie Ochoa; siblings Virginia Montez Morris, Jesse F. Montez, Johnny Montez, Lucas Martinez, Linda Martinez, George Martinez, and Carmen Jane Ochoa; 19 nieces, and 14 nephews. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Green Hills Cemetery. Some folks say they wouldn't change a thing. Even if they could, but I would. Ricky we love and cherish you; we're lost for words. Your passing is a great loss to us. At the same time we're happy for you. We will stay strong and carry on with you on our minds and in our hearts. R.I.P. Los Montez, Martinez, Y Ochoas In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wachovia Bank in West Asheville, for a memorial fund to help expenses.

  4. I worked with Rick at mcdonald’s and remember how he used to make me laugh. He will be missed.

  5. It makes me very sad that Ricky is gone. All of us will miss tht big smile and quick laugh. The big guy with a huge heart and all the joy and hope of an innocent child. Still there is peace in knowing that he will suffer no more pain and will never be misunderstood again. May we all learn from his generous love.
To his beloved daughter, his brothers and sisters, the Goodriches, and all his large circle of friends may you keep every happy memory of Rick in your heart to help you with the pain of his passing. God bless Ricky and everyone who loved him. Ms. A.

  7. I’m so sorry for your loss. I went to elementary and middle school with Ricky. I havent seen him in a long time, but I remember what a nice person he always was. I know his sister Linda and see her every now and then. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends. God Bless and RIP Ricky.

  8. Ricky worked for me at McDonalds. I haven’t seen him in quite a while but I still remember his smile and his determination to go somewhere with his life. The last time I seen him his baby was just born and he was so happy. That is the way I wish to remember my friend smiling and a proud Daddy. The world has suffered a great lose and heaven has gained a new angel.

  9. I had no idea that Rick had died until I just happened by Grove Street and saw the memorial. I have no idea what to say except that my heart is broken. Rick was my fiance in 1997, we lived together. We did not marry but split up later that year. We remained friends and have kept in touch. We would speak by phone and meet downtown on occasion and just hang out. I didn’t see as much of him after he met Denise, however we did still meet up once in a while or call each other. Rick was a wonderful friend. I do not know how he died but I can only hope that it was peacefully and that he met the Lord he loved so much with great honor and joy. I will sorely miss my friend and think of him often. My condolences to all of his friends and family. May everyone honor him in his/her own special way so that he did not die in vain.

  10. Rick will be missed by all at Church of the Advocate. He was agood friend and enjoyed our trips to Mississippi doing Katrina relief work. I know Rick is with God and heaven is a better place with him!! My condolences to his family!

  11. I know it’s been a while but I just found out about my friend Ricky Montez. I have known Ricky since I was very young. We talked many times about his pain over losing Salvador. A lot of people thought that Ricky was trouble back back then, but he was one of the most genuinely nice guys that I have ever known. He had an enormous smile and a personality to match. My first Job was with Ricky working at McDonalds for Sandra Parrish. You can say what you want about Ricky Montez, but he was a hard worker, a fierce friend and a good man. You are missed Ricky Montez.
