Richard Ronald Keener

RICHARD RONALD KEENER ASHEVILLE – Richard Ronald Keener, 64, of 21 Oakwood Street, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Mr. Keener was born in Buncombe County and was a son of Ruby Wilson Keener and the late Paul T. Keener. He was a Navy veteran and a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He worked with Progress Energy. He was recognized for his poetry and he loved caring for his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Rose Kerrigan Keener; one daughter, Dottie Demick and her husband, Scott; three grandchildren, Randy Keener and wife, Heidi, Justin Keener, and Matthew Demick; two great-grandchildren, Aliyah and Haddon Keener; four sisters, Lillian Keener, Barbara Brown, Judy Keener and Betty "Bit" Keener; and three brothers, Paul, Larry and Norman Keener. Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Georgetown Baptist Church with the Revs. Lee Davis, James Lee, Randy Keener, Scott Demick and Mr. Justin Keener officiating. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.
