Arden- Robert Bert Anderson, 81, fondly known as “Captain” by his friends, went home to be with Jesus on June 25, 2025, in Asheville, North Carolina, where he had made his home for the past 19 years.
Robert was a man of extraordinary talent. A gifted pilot, accomplished entrepreneur, and true craftsman, he could fix and do just about anything. Those who knew him will remember him not just for what he could build or fly, but for his heart—his generosity, his strength, and his unwavering commitment to helping others. He gave opportunities to many who needed a hand and served as a teacher and mentor to countless people along the way.
Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, with assignments in South Korea, Texas, and Key West. After his military service, he settled in Miami, Florida, where he started his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Rosa Anderson; his stepdaughter, Kimberley Springmyer (and husband Troy Springmyer); his daughter, Jennifer Burney (and husband Joe Burney); his sisters, Darlee Huey and Pamela Pearce; and his grandchildren, Kayla Springmyer, Jordan Burney, Joshua Burney, and Juliet Burney. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Rosa (Smith) and Houston Anderson; his sister, Diane Fee; and his stepdaughter, Cynthia Diamanti.
Born in Petal, Mississippi, Robert lived a life full of adventure, love, and purpose. He never stopped fighting, even in his final days. His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Charles George Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Mission Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion throughout this past year.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert’s honor to Carolina Poodle Rescue, a cause close to his heart.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Robert’s life was a testament to service, strength, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
