Born in: Chillicothe, Ohio
Resided in: Candler, North Carolina

Robert “Bob” McCain, 86, of Candler, NC, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, after a brief illness, on Thursday, June 12, 2025 in his residence.

Born in Chillicothe, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lee and Helen (McCain) Knece. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Jerry Knece, and a sister, Sharon (Knece) Seyfang, and a nephew, John Seyfang.

Bob retired from UPS some years ago, after beginning his career as a package loader. Rising through the ranks, he finished as a top district manager and moved to Candler to be near family. He enjoyed sharing stories of his early years of farming, drag racing his ’55 Chevy, fishing, and boating with his grandchildren. The ocean also spoke to him on early morning walks and talks with family. He attended many Daytona 500 races with dear friends and rarely missed a NASCAR race. He had a wonderful connection with rescue dogs throughout his years and often recounted stories of his furry companions.

Bob was a member of the Elks, and a strong supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Carol Hamlin; his first wife Linda (Ewart) Cook with whom he raised two children; his son Brad McCain; his daughter, Brenda Draper Macnamara and her husband Don Macnamara; four grandchildren; Brandon McCain, and his wife Abby; Cole Draper, Josh Draper, Sydney McCain Spencer and her husband Colby; his great granddaughter, Ivy Lou McCain, and his sister Linda(Knece) Davis and her husband Donnie.

A memorial service will be held July 26, 2025, and details will be forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
