Robert F. Sawinski passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord and his beloved wife Marcella in the early hours of February 1st, 2016. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded and comforted by his loving family, at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC. He was 97 years old. "Bob" was born on July 30th, 1918 to the late Mabel Sawinski, just outside of the small town of Rosemont, Minnesota. Bob completed grade school at the District 94 Elementary School, in the heart of Rosemont. He graduated as a Cadet Captain from the prestigious Cretin High School in St. Paul, MN in 1936. He continued his studies at the University of Minnesota, earning degrees in motion and time study and blue print reading in 1942. His education continued long after college through a variety of trainings and management programs related to his longtime employer, Swift & Co. Bob started his career at Swift & Co. in June of 1938, making just .44 cents/hour. He worked his way up through the company before retiring after 41 years of service as the head of industrial engineering for the United States and Canada in 1979. He continued his love for his ham radio, making it a daily routine in retirement. When it was said and done "KD4DJ" had recorded communications with every county in the U.S. at least three times, along with multiple other countries around the world. Bob was a faithful Catholic, giving decades of service to the church. He was in the Knights of Columbus since 1950, was a Fourth Degree Knight and past Grand Knight, as well as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector for many years. His deepest passion was the one he had for the love of his life, his wife of 70 years, Marcie. The life they built, and the love they shared, will forever be his greatest gift to us. I will never be able to thank you enough for the love and guidance you gave to my wife. The love Tiffany had for you and the memories you were able to give her have made her into the precious gift she is for me today. 2. Condolences and prayers for uncle Bob and all those whose life’s he touched. He was always a joy to be around and a loving presence of encouragement and possibility for all of us. I mourn his passing and celebrate his reunion with those that preceded him, especially his Marcella. A loving son, father, grandfather great grandfather and uncle. I still see his smile and hear his laughter like it was yesterday. A salute to a wonderful man . A salute to a life well lived and well loved. An inspiration to all of us and a legacy to carry forward in our lives.

  3. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Your Dad always had a quick, and gentle smile that I will always remember. The deep love he had for his family, and also what a great father he was, is obvious. So nice to read all of Uncle Bob’s accomplishments. He really was such a great role model, evidenced by his 97 full years of life and the youthful spirit shining from his eyes and smile, even a month ago. What a great legacy he leaves for all.

  4. Jill, Tiffany and Family, I was so sadden to hear of Bob’s passing. My heart is broken for you. Bob was such a loving and gentle man. He was a good man, and was loved by all who knew him. Please know that you are not alone. That we love you, we are here for you and we are praying for you. May the Lord comfort you during the difficult days to come.

  6. Grandpa, you will be missed by so many. I am sad your great grandson Jack never met you but I will be sure to let him know how wonderful you were. I have saved all of the cards you sent him and look forward to sharing them with him. You are a fine example of the man I would love for him to become and I feel incredibly blessed you are part of his legacy.

  7. Mr. Sawinski was a gentleman and always had a kind word to say to everyone. I know he will be missed by the family and anyone that knew him. My heart and prayers go out to all of the family.

  8. Brother Robert was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He has been a great asset and inspiration to the Knights in his willingness to serve God and the Knights. He will be remembered for a long time to come. Prayer will be said for him.

  9. I thought highly of mr and Mrs. Sawinski. They were both very wonderful people. It was a pleasure for me to wire their new house over 30 years ago. I saw him on occasion over the years and he always remembered me as well as my high regard for him and his accomplishments in life. My deepest sympathy to the family. Eddie Frisbee

  10. Mr. Sawinski was a quiet soul with a Devine love of God that anyone could feel in his presence when he walked into a room. He will be missed.
May God give the family peace and comfort in knowing that he is home in the Devine love of God forever.
