Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. The first time I met Roger was about 12 years ago at Asheville Area Rescue Squad. The big thing I remember about that encounter was a rough, tough, stern man with a marshmallow interior. Roger taught me a lot about fire and rescue over the years, but much more about being a friend. He took his job seriously and his friends to heart. My last encounter with him was at UHFD when we stood outside and talked for a great while about both of our families plans for the future. I remember him telling me to do what I felt was right for my family and with my life regardless of other opinions because you only live once. This is truly a terrible thing to have such a great person taken from us so soon. The news of his passing saddens me deeply. I will miss him greatly. My condolences to the family, and please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist in any way at any time. I believe we all have suffered a great loss ……

  2. Condolences from all the staff and members of Black Mountain Fire and Rescue….may God provide the need and comfort in these trying times as we will all miss you Roger!

  3. Words can’t express the loss we all will share. My prayers are with the family. Roger was a true friend and Brother to us all.

  4. Roger, You were my best friend. You were there when I needed a friend and a listener. I will miss you very much. But I will see you in heaven one day soon. Deb Gentry

  5. To Shirley and all the family, my thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of loss and sorrow. Roger meant so much to the many, many friends he had, and he truly was a dear friend to me and my family. God has his hands wrapped around you and will give you the comfort and peace that you need. I love you and will continue to have you in my prayers daily. Please let me know of anything I can ever do for you.

  6. Dearest Shirley & Family,
We are so sorry to learn of Roger’s passing. We will miss him in our community and in Hominy Lodge activities. Our prayers are with you all at this time. If we can help you in any way, please let us know. Love & Prayers.

  9. TO THE FAMILY OF ROGER SLUDER. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT HONOR TO HAVE KNOWN
ROGER FOR THE PAST 22 YEARS.I USED
TO SELL HIM ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS OVER
THE YEARS,AND ALSO HE WAS ON SEVERAL
CALLS TO MY WIFES FAMILY ON EMERGENCYS THAT WOULD COME UP.
THE LAST TIME I SAW HIM WAS ABOUT
A YEAR AGO WHEN MY BROTHER-IN-LAW
CUT HIS ARM ON A PIECE OF GLASS.
ROGER WAS ALWAYS THE FIRST TO ARRIVE
IT SEEMED,AND ALWAYS HAD TO TELL THE
OTHERS HOW TO GET THERE. MY BROTHER-
IN LAW WAS SCARED AND ROGER JUST KEEP TELLING HIM ‘ITS ONLY A SCRATCH
YOU WILL BE FINE’. ROGER HAD A WAY
ABOUT HIM WITH THINGS LIKE THAT.

I WAS OUT OF TOWN WHEN I HEARD ABOUT
HIS PASSING,WISHED I COULD HAVE BEEN
THERE TO PAY MY RESPECT TO SUCH A
GREAT AND HONEST MAN SUCH AS ROGER.
MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH
    YOU ALL.
