Ronald David Swann, 74, of Clifton Forge, VA, died on Sunday, January 27, 2019, in Clifton Forge.
He was born on November 29, 1944, in Asheville, to the late Jeanette Davis Swann. He was a Forest Supervisor for the U.S. National Forest Service, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed reading, especially history, and working out at the YMCA. He graduated from the University of Georgia. At the height of the Vietnam War, completed Officer Candidate School, and attended U.S. Army Jump School and Ranger School. He then completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart. He retired from the U.S. Army as Lieutenant Colonel and was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Grier Swann; son, Eric Swann; and granddaughter, Evie Swann, all of Clifton Forge.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January30, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Mike Warren officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening beginning at 5:00 p.m. for one hour prior to the service.
A graveside funeral service will take place on Friday at 12:00 noon at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, Candler, NC. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside.
