Ronald Rhodes Estridge

Mr. Estridge was born in Mecklenburg County on August 31, 1934 and moved to Asheville in 1946. He was a son of the late William Banks Estridge, Sr. He was a graduate of Lee Edwards High School - Class of 52 and attended Asheville-Biltmore College, Queen’s College in Charlotte and graduated from NC State University in 1957 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked for American Enka Corporation for 15 years. After the closing of the rayon plant he went to work for Beacon Manufacturing Company where he retired in 1999 after 20 years of service. Ron was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where he previously served as chairman of the Deacons. He was an assistant Boy Scout leader for Troop 8 when his sons were younger. He is remembered as a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
He is survived by his mother, Virginia Rhodes Estridge of Charlotte; his devoted wife of 44 years, Katherine James Estridge; one daughter, Cynthia Estridge Pigg and her husband, John of Surfside Beach, SC and their children, Diana, Nicholas and Lauren and great-granddaughter, Gwendolyn; two sons, Bruce Ronald Estridge and his wife, Sue of Mars Hill and their children, Joey and Katie; and John Thomas Estridge and his wife, Cherie of Stanley, NC and their children, Rebekah, Rachel, Daniel and Matthew; one sister, Patricia McKee of Lake Wylie, SC, and one brother, William Banks Estridge of Charlotte.
A celebration of his life will be conducted at 3:00 pm Saturday, July 21, 2001 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 17 Shawnee Trail, Asheville, with the Revs. Donnie Williams, Bill Laxton and Donald Munson officiating. There will be a reception following the service. Child care will be provided at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Mountain Area Hospice, Eliada Homes, Western Carolina Rescue Mission or a charity of one’s choice.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.

We were so sorry we were unable to attend Ron’s service
on Sat. Betty’s brother is dying with cancer in GA and we were down there. Also, Tedd and Gail Smith said to give you their condolences as they were out of town also. Our love and prayers to you and your family. Ron was a wonderful person.
