Etowah – Roy Howard Carter, 79, of Etowah passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 at John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.
Mr. Carter was born November 21, 1931 in Scott County Virginia to the late Ernest and Stella Mae Hill Carter. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Kyle Carter, James Carter and Eckel Carter and three sisters, Ruby Brickey, Mima Starnes and Jean Dean.
Mr. Carter loved singing gospel music and he is survived by his wife of 61 years Faye Stewart Carter. He is also survived by two sons, Larry Carter and his wife, Theresa and Lance Carter both of Asheville; two daughters, Carolyn Jackson and her husband Scooter of Mills River and Pamela Sprague of Brevard; three grandchildren, Sarah Sprague, Lindsey Sprague and Carly Jackson and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 14, 2011 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor Kemuel Pruitt of French Broad Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends the night before on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
The burial and graveside service is scheduled for Monday, November 14, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

Roy was such an important person in our lives in providing the care and love of Emily in her early years. We will always remember and cherish his humor. Faye & Roy together had a huge, positive impact on our lives. We send our love and hugs to the whole family.
