Ruby Burrell Crook, 84, formerly of Asheville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Swain County Hospital, in Bryson City. Born on October 19, 1925 in Tryon, NC, Mrs. Crook was a daughter of the late Washington and Mabel Burrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Frank Crook, and by five sisters. Ruby retired from the National Climatic Center after many years of service. She was a member of Enka Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. She is survived by her sister, Lona Mae Ross, of Tryon; sons, Mike Crook (Annette), of Bryson City, and Roger Crook, of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Willie Crook (Jennifer), of Kentucky, April Crook Parr, of Asheville; and great-grandchild, Charlotte Crook, of Kentucky. A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Holden officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

  1. I still can remember Aunt Ruby as young girl going off to work for the government and admire her for buying a home for Grandma and Grandpa to live in.

  2. I have wonderful memories when Mama, Anne, and I would come to visit on Sundays. Shooting pool in the basement, and having the BEST meatloaf for dinner, which the two sisters, Lona Mae and Ruby would make. Aunt Ruby was a wonderful lady and I will miss her greatly. Love, Catherine
